The email will come in the form telling you that your account has exceeded the limit. This email looks like it’s coming from Verizon or Vodafone with the subject “Your credit balance is over the limit” and also offers an attached “balance checker” for you to verify your payments.

But actually the so-called “balance checker”, which is a zip file, is actually a Trojan that can do more damage. The email also contains sentences such as “Please use the attached Verizon (or Vodafone) Balance Checker Tool to review and analyze your payments” ,to lure you into opening it. Once you open the attachment, you’ll then get infected with a Trojan called Regrun.

This “Balance Checker” Trojan basically will open a backdoor on your computer, which then downloads other malicious software from the the Zbot botnet. And your computer will likely be used to hijack online banking accounts, which is what Zbot botnet is good at. If you happened to have received an email with lots of similarities to what have been mentioned, remember not to click or run any of the attachments and delete it at once. Read more this Trojan email at GeekWithLaptop

This brain simulator was developed by IBM’s Almaden research center. It consists of 1.6 billion virtual neurons connected by 9 trillion synapses, which is almost a cell-by-cell simulation of the human visual cortex.

With all the massive components, over 150,000 gigabytes of memory and power consumption of over million watts, the simulator is only as good as a cat’s brain. But the achievement is much better than the smaller rat brain simulator that they made two years ago.

To simulate the entire human cortex, they need computing power that is 1,000 times faster than what they currently have managed, but this could only be achieved in about a decade from now.

In order to be free from tangling wires that you hate most, the only way is to go wireless.

Here comes the world’s first wireless USB external hard drive that has been launched by Imation. Called the Imation Pro WX, the hard drive can be remotely and wirelessly connected to your computer. The Imation Pro WX features a little antenna, which works as the transmitter that transmits the data wirelessly at 15MB/s to your computer, while the computer has a receiver connected to the USB port.

Besides the wireless USB connectivity, the storage capacity of this external hard drive is also worth mentioning. It offers a 1.5TB of storage which is sufficient for storing up to 300,000 photos and up to 750 hours of video. The little down side is the 15MB/s is far slower than a NAS transferring over WiFi. Consider a wireless N connectivity which could go up to top speed of 18+MB/s or more theoretically.

The Imation Pro WX wireless USB HDD costs $500. If the price matters but you insist to go wireless, you could also convert one of your existing external USB HDDs into wireless by connecting to it to the Winstar M4, which allows you to access the content via WiFi.

Of course these devices must have built-in wireless connectivity in order to let the users to do shoot and upload on the run.

Cisco has responded by promising the next generation of its Flip video, the Flip MinoHD to come with built-in WiFi connectivity which allows the users to take videos and then directly upload videos to YouTube. Of course with built-in WiFi only allows users manage to get hooked onto WiFi network to upload videos. But this is a lot easier than doing it on the previous models.

Perhaps Cisco should think of equipping the future models with 3G or WiMax to provide more options of connectivity. Besides WiFi support, other feature that the Flip MinoHD will get is a larger screen that will slide open to reveal menu buttons.

The SE Kurara will also get 256MB RAM, a figure that is a lot for a mobile phone. Apparently, the Kurara will be a much more powerful phone than the Satio and will work much faster. The Kurara will also be capable of recording and playback HD 720p video, which was early reflected by the HD label at its back. This handset is expected to launch in second half of February 2010 with a MSRP around $745.

The little device is the product of AquaOne Technologies, which is to be installed in your toilet or other home water system to detect any water leak or overflow.

The H2Orb is like a water valve that attaches directly to the water valve behind the toilet and has a single float sensor hangs inside the toilet tank. When a leak is detected, it shuts off the water and alerts the user of the leak with an audible alarm and also displays an icon on its LCD display. The entire system runs on a single 3V lithium coin cell battery.

Water leak could cause certain internal damages of appliances or other wooden house decors. The device is useful to let you know if there is a leak as soon as possible. And also it can save your water bills and you from the screaming phone calls.

But now with this wireless radio-based Flash trigger control, you can easily take your best shots single-handedly. The wireless Flash trigger consists of a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter is to hook into the camera’s hotshoe while the receiver is to be attached to the hotshoe base of battery-powered flash unit.

With the wireless flash trigger set up on your camera, every time you take a shot, the transmitter then sends a signal wirelessly to the receiver to get the flash to fire. In this way, the camera and the flash unit can fire synchronously within the effective area (up t0 30m).

The little wireless flash trigger costs only $23.70, which is a much cheaper than investing on a high-end camera that comes with wireless flash controller.

The Virtual Butler can be connected to various home security gadgets including cameras, doors and alarms etc to receive feeds from them. And then alerts you with its scary face on the mirror.

The Virtual Butler mirror is able to screen the video feeds, which allow you to see the unannounced irritating guest at the door on the living room screen which you can then decide whether to let the person in or not.

This Butler’s magic mirror is not restricted to home security system. It also serves as a good reminder for future events and activities. Such as it can alert you when the Jacuzzi is fully heated, remind you of your upcoming appointments and some more alerts you when someone leaves home on the sly.

The Virtual Butler costs $20,000, is meant for the super rich geeks, who wish to have an unusual way to be reminded and alerted any current and future events. Perhaps, those who’re too lonely may find this mirror little useful as it shows you with a face as if you have someone to talk to.

The HypnosEye can now let you project directly of what are on the iPhone screen. And of course it works with the iPod Touch, and other mobile gadgets as well.

The device does not take the video signal from the iPhone, what it does is only the analog way of projection. By sliding your iPhone into it, it can simply blow up the image on the iPhone screen onto a projection surface. This kind of projection will definitely not give you much brightness.

But the makers of HypnosEye claim you’ll be able to get an projected image size from 17 inch to 45 inch diagonally from a distance of half to 2 meters away. This should be good enough when you want to project what is on your phone and the setup should be much quicker than having to hook up an external projector to the iPhone.

The HypnosEye kit comes included with the projection lens and a portable 17-inch diagonal projection surface. It’s available at Japan Trend Shop and runs you about $80, a price that is much cheaper than any portable projectors in the market. Watch the device in action in the clip below.

No much idea why it’s called Milky Way. Perhaps it’s because of it’s in little milky color or it is a small replica of the Milky way the goes across the clear night sky. The HD 5970 clams two 5800 series chipsets on one card to provide the best performance.

Each GPU has the equivalent speed of a 5850 with a 725MHz primary clock speed, and also clams 1GHz GDDR5 memory, the 3,200 stream (effects) processors, 160 texture units and the 2GB of memory provides it as much performance as two 5850s but takes only half the space.

The HD 5970 also features CrossFire mode, allows two 5970 cards combined together delivering a processing power of equivalent to 4 GPUs for games that support it. The 5970 graphics card was made based on the newer 40nm manufacturing process, allows it to consume relatively low power.

Features such as DirectX 11, OpenGL 3.2 remain intact, and has been added with support for Eyefinity with three displays and OpenCL computing for platforms that support them. The 5970 has two dual-link DVI ports and one DisplayPort output.

The 5970 cards are most ready for highly demanding HD games, and available now from third parties such as Asus, Diamond and MSI. Each runs you about $599.

Adventurous geeks may wanna bring one of these USB hurricane lamps with you for your next jungle exploration trip. But be sure to bring along your laptop or netbook in order to light the lamp up. The lamp uses LED bulbs which shouldn’t take up too much power.
