Kill Dead Pixel and Dead Pixels Test - two simple online tools to save and detect dead pixels on LCD monitor!

February 22nd, 2008 by ketyung

Samsung's new 19-inch USB monitor comes with so many goodies
Couple of friends have complained to me that their newly bought LCD monitors having few red and green spots. And they’re pretty frustrated especially when having few spots only on their LCD monitor. As some vendors only allow you to return or exchange for a new one if the LCD monitor has more than certain number of spots. Anyway, it seems there are two very simple online tools to fix these spots which are contributed by dead pixels. And to detect the dead pixels on the LCD before you carry the LCD screen out of the vendor’s shop.

Kill Dead Pixel - an image of flushing square to fix your dead pixels for your LCD monitor! Drag and drop to those dead spots! To fix the dead pixels on your LCD monitor, what you’ll need to do is pop over to KillDeadPixel.com. And an image of a flashing square is presented to you (as shown at left-hand side). What you need to do is to drag the image to those spots that have dead pixels and let it stay for an hour or more. It’s been reported to work many times. No harm to give it a try.

Sudoku Junction - the online Sudoku puzzle

December 17th, 2007 by ketyung

Sudoku Junction - the online Sudoku puzzle
I’m no big fan of Sudoku puzzle, in fact I ain’t know that much how to get this puzzle around. But only recently as told by a friend on how to play with it. What I know is it’s a kind of puzzle that consists of some numbers on a few square boxes and you have to fill in those numbers from 1 to 9 and the numbers of each row and column must not be repeated. Anyway, if your office work is simply too boring and you can stay connected to the Internet, Sudoku Junction would be a good website for you to hang around and play the Sudoku puzzle to kill some times.

Rsizr - online image resizing tool. Well, I still prefer GIMP!
When blogging on TechChee, I always need the image editing tool to resize the pictures of gadgets. GIMP, as a free and open source tool, of course, is the first choice of tools that I always use for scaling down or resizing the images to suit my blog posts. Anyway, if you can’t get along with GIMP for some unknown reasons or you don’t stick to a fixed workstation or computer to do your work. Here comes an online, flash-based image resizing tool that you could probably rely on to carry out the image resizing that you need for your blog posts.

SecureZip - The Next Generation of Zip

May 10th, 2007 by ketyung

SecureZip - the next generation of Zip!
SecureZip
- the next generation of ZIP
, is the kind of zip and archiving software that works differently from others that you’re used to. The specialty of SecureZip is it deals with archiving your files by taking care of the security in mind. Why do you have to bother with security in ZIP or archiving files? You’d wanna ask this question. I think most of you have been using zip software to archive several files for the ease of sending it as a single attachment to your business partners and customers via email. And the archive that you attached to the email is only a plain archive that has no security measure. Once this email gets to your customers or business partners, it could then be misplaced and happened to drop into the hands of someone else or it could be hijacked by smart hackers when it’s on its way. If your attachment has no security measure, it simply means anyone who gets hold of that piece of email will be able to open the attached archive and access any important and confidential information in it. This means all your business secret will be facing the risk of being leaked to your rivals.

New freebie from Microsoft, the Virtual PC 2007

February 21st, 2007 by ketyung

Microsoft Virtual PC 2007
It’s only the first quarter of 2007, Microsoft has already started giving away some gifts. Its latest version of Virtual PC 2007, is now a freebie. The Virtual PC 2007 is a program that allows users to run multiple operating systems at once on a single physical computer. This means that you can run Windows XP, Vista or ME etc on the same physical machine. Users can easily switch among operating systems by only clicking the mouse! If you’ve ever used software such as VMWare, then you should know how this works. The only downside is Virtual PC supports only Microsoft’s operating systems, which means you’re unable to have non-MS operating systems such as Linux, MAC etc.

The new version of the Virtual PC has some additional features such as:

  • 64-bit host operating systems
  • Hardware-assisted virtualization
  • Network-based installation of a guest operating system
  • Running virtual machines on multiple monitors

It’s available for free download for both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. To me, I’m not so interested in running few Microsoft’s OSes under one physical machine. Maybe I’ll do for only XP and Vista. I’m more interested to have different vendor’s operating systems under one physical machine, such as Redhat/uBuntu Linux, Mac, Solaris and Windows XP would be just nice. Too bad, Virtual PC can’t do it!
