If you’ve been eyeing for an affordable Android tablet, Skytex will have a new one shipping next week. Known as the Skytex Skypad Alpha 2 which is an updated version of the company’s 7-inch Skypad Alpha Android tablet.

The Skypad Alpha 2 is powered by a single-core 1.2GHz ARM Cortex A8 processor and a Mali-400 graphics that’s capable of full HD (1080p) video playback. The 7-inch display of Alpha 2 is a capacitive touch display which offers 5 touch inputs but unfortunately it offers the same low resolution of 800×480 pixels as its predecessor.

Other goodies are 512MB of RAM, 4GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a mini USB port, HDMI output, a front-facing camera and WiFi b/g/n connectivity. The tablet comes with Android 2.3 but is said to be upgradeable to Android 4.0 ICS in early 2012.

As mentioned it’s an affordable unit which costs only $189 or lower and starts shipping December 20th. Last but not least, it comes in dimensions of 7.8 in x 4.8 in x 0.5 in, thinner than the original Alpha tablet but it feels studier as it’s housed in an aluminum case.
