Qik app gets updated with cross-platform video calling

Now you can make video calls from your iPhone to friends and loved ones who use Android devices. Thanks to the latest version of the Qik app that makes cross-platform video calling possible.

The latest Qik app gets updated with their new Qik Video Connect software, which allows users to make cross-platform video calls. The supported devices are Android smartphones running Android 2.1 or above, and iPhone, iPod Touch 4G, iPad 2. And video calls can be made via 3G, 4G, or WiFi network.

More amazingly, the app allows you to make video calls using either the front-facing or rear camera of your device. This means, users of iPhone 3GS can make video calls using the Qik app as well. The only downside is you’ll not be able to see your face and your friend’s face on the screen, while you’re facing the rear camera.

The new version of the Qik app also has a number of functions improved including video quality and with lower consumption of battery life while making video calls. There are still limited number of Android devices supported by the latest Qik app at the moment. Hopefully, they’ll soon expand the compatibility.
