Finally the iPad 2 has been announced at the Apple event. The iPad 2 comes with a 1GHz dual-core A5 chip and has both rear and front cameras. The CPU is said to offer up to twice the speed and up to nine times of graphics better than what the first-gen iPad has.

What’s more exciting is its pricing remains unchanged as 16GB WiFi-only model costs $499 while the top model, 64GB WiFi + 3G ends at $829. The new iPad 2 is capable of handling 1080p HD video and equipped with an HDMI output but requires an optional Apple Digital AV Adapter for the connection to a larger HDTV for HD video playback.
The screen of the iPad 2 remains 9.7-inch, featuring the same 1024 x 768 resolution and IPS LCD screen technology. The rear-facing camera of the iPad 2 is capable of recording video at 720p at 30fps and with the ability of 5x digital zoom. While the front-facing camera is able to record at a VGA resolution at 30fps. The battery of the iPad 2 is also good for 10 hours.
There is a Smart Cover for the iPad 2, which automatically detects if it’s closed or open and sends it to sleep or wakes it up respectively. The Smart cover is not free, which is available in two versions, a plastic and leather which costs you $39 and $69 respectively.
The iPad 2 is available in black and white models and 33 percent thinner than the original iPad, measuring at 8.8mm and weights at just over 600g. Both models will be headed to AT&T and Verizon and start shipping on March 11. And it’ll be sold on Apple online store, Apple’s retail stores and select Apple Authorized Resellers in the US.
The iPad 2 will come with iOS 4.3, alongside with a number of improved apps such as Safari (with improved performance), FaceTime, Photo Booth, iMovie and GarageBand (the latter two costs $4.99 each) which tap on the video shooting capabilities of its cameras. There are also enhanced iTunes Home sharing, enhanced AirPlay and a Personal Hotspot – the ability to let you share an iPhone 4 cellular data connection over Wi-Fi.
