lithium-ion-batteryMIT researchers have brought us good news, claiming that they’ve managed to develop new battery technology that would lead to produce small and lightweight batteries that recharge in seconds for cellphones and gadgets.

MIT said its engineers took the existing battery material and changed into a “beltway” that allows rapid transit of electrical energy. This technology could also be applied to car’s batteries later which would also allow rapid charging but the charging time would be dependent on the user’s electric grid too.

The new technology is able to produce batteries similar to the lithium rechargeable batteries commonly used today, would hit the market in two to three years’ time. The MIT’s technology allows to produce small battery that can be charged and discharged in 10 to 20 seconds, also allows the reduction in weight and size.
