Many commuters will tend to drowse off while traveling in the commuter train. And it’s not fun at all that you miss your stop just because of you’re sleeping.
A sleep mask called Noriko-san, which is still an early prototype has been developed by Pycotan, which shall help the sleeping commuters to get up when the train reaches their stop. This mask has a scrolling LED display that displays the text of the wearer’s destination, so other passengers will wake the wearer up when the train reaches their destination.
The device doesn’t have any intelligence for automatically detecting whether you’ve reached your destination. It all depends if other passengers are caring enough, so they will wake the wearer up in time. If everyone on the train is a sleepy head, then everyone will miss their destinations.
Normally, there will be some passengers standing there waiting for the seats, so these passengers will wake the sleeping ones up, so they could get the empty seat. The company has had a test drive for this device at the Tokyo’s Yamanote line.
