We’ve been little slack to keep ourselves up with the latest 1TB hard drives in the market. The latest announcement is from Hitachi, which has just released the second generation of their Deskstar 1 Terabyte hard drive.
Since the entire world is going green these days, Hitachi is also making the same move, which the major difference of the second generation of their Deskstar hard drive from the first generation, is it’s much more energy efficient than the first generation. Hitachi has crowned the Deskstar 2nd-gen 1TB hard drive with the title “World’s most energy efficient hard drive”.
The Deskstar 7K1000.B hard drive is the first product of the new “Tera Era” – a term that has been defined by Hitachi as the current demand in the market, due to increasing amount of digital information getting created, captured and duplicated around the world. The hard drive comes with 1 Terabyte storage capacity and provides 7,200rpm rational speed.
The hard drive finishes in new three-disk design, which improves idle power consumption a lot, that is up to 43% over its 1TB predecessor, which was already dubbed as the most energy efficient in industry before the second-gen released. Besides, this 1TB hard drive provides extra protection against data loss and piracy by employing the Bulk Data Encryption (BDE). Find out more from the press release here.
