These days, many vehicle makers are into producing those fuel-cell-powered vehicles, which are the best answer to the continuous rise of oil prices. Volkswagen also has built some of these hydrogen fuel-cell-powered vehicles, and they’ve stepped into their forth generation now.
The fuel cell vehicle of Volkswagen is still at the research stage, but they have plan to have it built into Volkswagen’s new Tiguan crossover model. The fuel cell vehicle makes use of hydrogen to create electricity which provides power to drive the car’s motor. Besides, the vehicle is also equipped with a lithium ion battery pack that stores some of the power, while the car is generating power from the hydrogen fuel cell.
The electricity stored in its internal battery of these fuel cell cars, can deliver extra power that gives the gasoline equivalent of 42-to-62 miles per gallon. These fuel cell cars are definitely great to solve the world’s major problem – the continuous rise of oil prices. But don’t expect to see these vehicles on the road in few years’ time. The Volkswagen spokesman predicted it will most likely need another 7 to 10 years for a consumer version to be available, and the foundation is the hydrogen refueling infrastructure must be built up first.
