OCZ’s brain mouse : Forget about QWERTY and mouse now!

March 6th, 2008 by ketyung

The OCZ brain mouse allows you to use your brain signals to interact with your computer.
It’s another OCZ’s invention. It’s a brain mouse. The brain mouse allows you to use your brain to interact with your computer. Instead of having your hands to type on QWERTY or move around on a mouse pad with a normal mouse to control your game play, now you can use your thoughts to control the game.

We’ve heard a couple of stories before about developing brain-controlled interfaces for computers. But to date, none of them seems to have become a successful one. How is this possible with the OCZ’s brain mouse? Using thought to control meaning the gamer can simply think of anything and the game character must act accordingly. And the list of actions is endless! OCZ makes it possible by having the neural impulse actuator in tandem with the brain control interface control peripherals developed by OCZ. The neural impulse actuator uses the brain’s electroencephalograph (EEG) signals and converts them into custom keystrokes or mouse inputs which can then be used to control gameplay.

But before using the device, you need to tune or train the device with your brain’s signals in order for it to obey your brain’s EEG. OCZ also offers a comprehensive training and calibration kit, so you can train and calibrate the device well before using it to operate your game with your mind. OCZ will kick off the USB 2.0 version of this device for mass production this year. And they’ll roll out with a price higher than average, $300, which only enthusiasts will probably consider.

It’s incredible what technology is coming to in recent time, I think it’s reaching a stage where some people get freaked out. Imagine a thought controlled mouse!

Thats a pretty cool gadget, i guess the only people that can use it are the people that know how to use their brains….lol

    awesome….
    it’s really cool man.
but, will it hurt our brain?

    - A brain mouse! Whoa! I would never think that in our lifetimes that a fully-integrated mind-to-device would be successfully created, but from what you’re saying about the new interface that OCZ has created, it looks like it does have serious promise. Using current technology (EEG) in tandem with this new mouse is genius! It’s a good thing that you do have a whole training/calibration kit for anyone new to the concept. Thing is, if this kit were to track one’s brain signals, wouldn’t that be (in essence) a recording of a portion of one’s medical state? In other words, wouldn’t that mean that since there’s a record of one’s brain signals (that you hinted is unique to every individual) that it would be accessible to anyone who has the knowledge to extract that information? Knowing that, wouldn’t that mean that in order for someone to use the device, they would have to sign away their medical history (considering any part of a person being recorded would be considered as such)?
