Apple iPhone is only hitting the Asia market in 2008. Perhaps, for some Asians who can’t wait till 2008, would have already imported a US version of iPhone and cracked it using any of the unlocking software that is available over the Internet to bypass the AT&T. Anyway, are you one of the eagerly-waiting Asians for the iPhone? If you’re in Japan, perhaps, you’d mostly say no. As you know in Japan there is something that definitely outshines the iPhone is on the way, which is called Infobar 2.
Infobar 2 was just unveiled by KDDI this week at the Ceatec exhibition in Chiba, Japan. The phone is sexy, sleek and boasts a large LCD screen, and does everything that the Jesus Phone can do. Some cutting edge features that surely trigger your interest and more info about its superb Internet speed will be delivered to you after the jump.
The features at a glance of Infobar 2 are as follows:
– 2-megapixel camera
– 100MB of internal storage
– MicroSD slot for memory cards containing music or other files
– Embedded Felica smart chip for electronic payments
Besides, the great features of Infobar 2, of course the mobile network infrastructure in Japan is much more advanced than what is being offered by AT&T in the states. In Japan, the Japanese can get to enjoy an Internet surfing speed of up to 2.4Mbps compared to the paltry 70Kbps to 135Kbps AT&T Wireless’ EDGE Network provides for iPhone users. You’d probably argue that iPhone is not only a phone, it’s a cellphone that is excellent for music.
The Infobar 2 also offers great music download via the KDDI’s Lismo music store. It offers added convenience for the search and match for songs if you’re unsure about the title or the artist. Besides music, it offers digital TV that you can tune to many stations in Tokyo area.
Infobar 2 definitely offers everything that an iPhone has, except one thing i.e. WiFi. Perhaps, you’d probably argue about what for you need WiFi, as the Internet speed in Japan can reach up to a speed of 2.4Mbps. But, I found WiFi should come in handy for business users who will always want to connect to the office servers for syncing some files or data, without having to be exposed to security threat for doing it via the Internet. In short, Infobar 2 is definitely the iPhone killer in Japan, which it’s going to hit the Japan market in November and asking a much cheaper price of Â¥20,000 ($172) only. And this is why the Japanese is the exceptional among the Asians, who wouldn’t give a damn when the iPhone is hitting the Asia market.

Hi!
Any idea if this phone will work outside Japan, like in Europe? If yes, how can I purchase it from overseas? Thanks!
