That is the trend in the PC world, everything is moving to USB. Which means in the near future, we wouldn’t get to see other peripheral ports except USB. Samsung claimed they’re now one step ahead and they’ve produced the USB connected monitor display, the UbiSync LCD monitor, which is claimed to be the first one in the world. One great feature is this USB monitor needs no graphics card or just needs a low-end VGA card for high resolution display. Because it uses some kind of software graphics adapter for the emulation of a graphic card. And this software graphics adapter is to be downloaded to the PC when the UbiSync LCD monitor is plugged into a USB 2.0 port. Furthermore, the UbiSync LCD monitor includes a 4 port USB hub, good for those who needs more than one monitor display, so can connect up to five USB monitors.
A USB connected monitor is also good for those having existing VGA card or DVI port, which you can just have another monitor without having to open up your PC box for installing a new VGA card. It’s also good for laptop or UMPC users who wanna have a bigger screen size occasionally, which you can just connect it to your USB port. The UbiSync LCD monitor is a 19-inch 1280 x 1024 screen. Its price is not cheap, it costs $678, which is pretty expensive for an 19-inch.
The Samsung’s UbiSync LCD monitor uses DisplayLink technology, which doesn’t sacrifice much of its performance, is fine for business use but not high-end 3D graphics. Using a software video adapter for emulation would have some performance drop as it takes up some resources of your PC. But it’s still claimed to be capable of 32-bit color and DVD-quality playback.
