An Unix expert, Rik Farrow found that iPhone comes with a ROM older than 1.1.2 is easily hackable by using the H D Moore’s Metasploit, a popular platform for testing security systems. Farrow was able to take complete control of an iPhone and demonstrate the ability to eavesdrop on conversations, intercept voice mail and e-mail, and upload nefarious software programs. Through his test, there wasn’t a need to have physical access to the iPhone, as long as the iPhone is connected to a WiFi network, which is quite common to most users, as AT&T’s EDGE is kinda slow for surfing the Internet. But Moore also claims that the exploit is possible over EDGE network. 6-min video to show you after the jump!

Human seems to have poor memory for text passwords or personal identification numbers. Some researchers have found a better way for us, human to better remember our passwords, i.e. to use the passwords in graphical mode instead of text mode. A more straightforward explanation is it will alllow you to draw a graphical image to unlock your cellphone or any handheld device instead of having to punch in text password or pin numbers to unlock it.

Credit card is no doubt the kind of plastic card that has been getting tons of frauds. So, we’ll definitely need better security on it and the next generation of credit card will be having a much more tightened security control i.e you’ll need to punch in password before you could make use of it to pay your bills or your meal etc.
This new password-protected idea on credit card has been introduced to us by two companies. They are Innovative Card Technologies and eMue Technologies. These two companies have jointly developed a credit card that looks like your standard banking credit or debit card at first glance, except it’s got a tiny display and a 10 digit keypad. This newly introduced credit card with extra security system is known as Credit Card Embedded Authentication Device.

Don’t you know that the nVidia graphic card that sits on the mobo of your computer could be used to crack the password logins of Windows Vista operating system? For geeks who have been involved in GPGPU programming, you should have already known that this technique is super powerful, which has been used for processes that need massively parallel processing power such as physics simulation, financial analysis etc.

You simply don’t feel comfortable with the idea of having your data stored on a USB flash drive and carry around ? If you’re the kinda paranoid, who simply feels insecure of having data stored on a USB flash drive. The Corsair’s “Flash Padlock” flash drive is definitely one kind that gives you better sense of security. As it locks up your data using pad lock system, which is the system that you’ve been used to for handling the locking of your briefcase.
The “Flash Padlock” flash drive uses pin-based security system, which you can set the pins to limit who can access the data on it. This flash drive uses hardware-based security system, which is definitely much more secure than any software-based security that is pretty vulnerable to brute-force attacks by hackers. The Flash Padlock flash drive comes with two variants, they are the 1GB, retails for $29.99 and the 2GB for $39.99.

The researchers of University of Michigan have found a breakthrough way that can decipher encrypted data in seconds, which currently can only be done in dozens of years using modern high-end desktop computers. This new way of cryptography involves the use of light, which is some kind of extremely short pulses of light to be emitted and interact with something called “quantum dots“. The quantum dots here simply sound a little bit abstract to some people. But just take it as extremely small structures that are highly sensitive to small changes.
The final device if successfully constructed will be one kind that requires many thousands of quantum dots, which light beam is encoded within and sent to the quantum dots to get all possible answers computed in seconds. This super device would definitely be the ideal one for solving many complex computational problems other than just for cryptography.
Another advantage of the “quantum dots” technology needs only inexpensive diode lasers as its light source. So, it wouldn’t be too far from now for the possibility of these super speedy quantum computers to hit the industry. Such a speedy device is definitely the dream machine that hackers have been waiting for. So, what is the hint for our future computer industry? We should be glad that there is such a super speedy computer available for helping solve much more complex computational problems in matter of seconds only. But, it would be definitely much tougher for the industry to handle protection for sensitive information.
