The ROPID was developed by Tomotaka Takahashi of Robo Garage at Kyoto University, is tiny in size, and able to respond to voice commands and speak with its mouth moving to present its cuteness.

Besides communications, ROPID is also able to walk, run and jump more rapidly than any other similarly constructed robots. The actual size of the ROPID is apparently shown in the picture below.

It’s certainly a robot for those lonely city dwellers, which they can have someone to talk to after a hard day of work. It could be like your new born but with better communication and mobility to keep the rest of your day with more fun. Video below shows the mobility of the ROPID robot.

The smart hand was tested on some patient, where it had four motors and forty sensors linked directly to the brain. They had surgery to have the patients’ nerve endings linked up to receptors in the prosthetic hand, enabling the patients to have feelings in figertips of the hand, even though it is not really part of the body.

The smart hand is the first of its kind that sends signal back to brain. It has taken the researchers 10 years of hard work, and finally they have one that at least allows those who’ve lost their hands to regain little sense of touch.

Of course, don’t compare with the real or biological hand made by God, as it has over millions of nerves in it, which current human technology can’t achieve with such a superb precision in this decade. Maybe, next decade they could probably have something closer.

The use of an Intel Atom and other components of a computer allows the robot to be easily programmable.

Hobbyists can develop or alter the application software for this robot. You can code the software on a computer, make some changes and then download to the robot for testing. This Vstone Robovie-PC comes with almost everything found in a computer ioncluding the 1.6GHz Z530 Atom processor, 1.3 magepixel webcam, dual USB ports, a VGA connector and it supports WiFi some more. The WiFi connectivity should come in handy for you to download any new code onto it via the wireless network.

Since this mini robot is like a complete computer, it also runs Windows or Linux as the operating system. And it offers easiness to achieve advanced functionality. The Vstone Robovie Robot can also be directed by the user to go around and take pictures using its webcam and upload the pictures automatically to photo sharing sites via the WiFi connectivity.

The robot is powered by a 7.2V NiMH battery. The exterior body is made of a polyurethane foam that provides electronic protections with soft and squishy material properties. The 15-inch tall Vstone Robovie won’t come cheap, it costs around $4,500, could be the most expensive in the market but it offers lots of flexibilities for hobbyists to customize or develop it to have more functionalities.

Here comes the BloodBot, a robot that is specially made for drawing blood from the donors or patients.

The BloodBot consists only an arm with a needle and a probe. This robot probes around your arm until it finds an area of flesh that is less squishy than the rest, and it’ll then jab you with a needle. Unfortunately, this robot has only 78% of accuracy, which would mean it could do something very wrong when it’s inaccurate. Apparently, only brave souls are willing to hand the destiny of their arms to this robot.

The built-in camera allows the Furot II to be aware of its location and it keeps track of where it’s been to and will never let it go the same area twice unless it’s needed. The battery of the Furot II can live up to 90 minutes only before needing to recharge. If the cleaning has surpassed the 90-minutes, you can send it to recharge, and it’s able to get back to where it left off as it’s got internal memory to memorize all its states. Currently, no indication about when the Furot II be available for the market.

The idea of using robot as the test rider is definitely safer and has much lower risk than using a human test rider. As new bikes or the prototypes will still have some glitches; it definitely risks the life of a human test rider while riding the bike at high speed in the test.

Castrol says that the Flossie robot is best used in testing of bikes with increased acceleration or power. Well, Flossie test those Castrol’s bikes in stationary mode. And it’s able to self learn such as learning the gear change pattern, clutch feel etc of the bike that he is riding.

Apparently, Flossie is not going to ride the bike on the road at high speed, so the chance of crashing the bike is almost zero. But Flossie, a robot was chosen as the test rider instead of human, is because of it can work under any temperature, for any duration of time and under the pressure of having to test a long list of bikes. And the best is no long-term human resource cost that Castrol needs to bear.

Customers order the noodle soup on a computer which will then initiate the robot to start making the noodle soup.

It takes only 2 minutes for the Ramen robot to whip up a steaming bowl of noodle soup. The robot is able to add the necessary spices and salt into the soup precisely. And some more it has approximately 40 million different flavor permutations for you to choose from.

The robot is actually being used at the “Momozono Robot Ramen”, a ramen shop in Japan that was opened in November last year. And the robot was built by the 60-year-old shop owner, Yoshihira Uchida, who spent a whopping 20 million yen on its construction.

The Chewing Robot was developed by the researchers from the University of Bristol’s Department of Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with the Department of Oral and Dental Science. This robot will be used to test dental materials, so dentist can experiment with many new materials before making them into the human jaw.

The Chewing robot is based on 3D mechanism with six linear actuators reproducing motion and force sustained by teeth, it actually replicates the human jaw to the fullest. This robot serves as a chewing simulator that lets dentists try out all possible elements and test them to perfection.

The Chewing Robot is currently on exhibition at the ongoing Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition (June 30 to Jul 04). This is definitely a helpful robot to ensure dentists can test all the possible materials and ensure that no wrong materials to go into our mouth that may break our jaws.

The Aero-Blue is a robot specially designed to feed its master. It is smart enough to handle delicate objects such as eggs. If you’re too lazy to even lift your finger to pick up the food, you can get the Aero-Blue robot to spoon feed you. So you can keep your hands and eyes busy on your Wii and the TV screen.

his Aero-Blue robot lets you get back to the sweet childhood moment where you had someone to spoon feed you with food. There is no information when this spoon-feeding robot will be available and how much it costs. But I guess it should be pretty expensive.

But the purpose of this tiny robotic mosquito is unknown due to the designer who created it, has not got an understandable description about his product.

The robotic mosquito came out of the hands of the Russian graphic designer, iunewind. It’s been completed as detailed as a real mosquito. The Russian designer described Night Watch as “Model of robot mosquito, killer of vampire – real mosquito.”, which likely means the Night Watch is meant for killing the real mosquitoes.

The Russian designer also has his design of the Night Watch robotic mosquito sold as photo prints on Deviantart, where he described that these tiny robots as evil machines, meant for uncivilized wars, killing enemies by sucking their blood. Anyway, it’s just a concept and a piece of art.

The users might be able to move the eyeballs only to direct those mechanical devices to perform the required tasks. This will definitely be a great helper for those who’re too lazy to move their hands.

The EyeSeeCam was developed by scientists at the University of Munich and demoed at the Hannover Messe 2009, an industrial technology fair in German. The EyeSeeCam comes in the form of a head-mounted control interface, which is able to track the viewpoint of the wearer’s pupils and transmit the data to servo actuators which can then control various mechanical devices such as video cameras or even a robot.

The EyeSeeCam is equipped with WiFi connectivity, operated wirelessly over WLAN, and only requires a standard laptop with a 6-pin firewire port. The EyeSeeCam was originally designed to study cognitive behavior, but now the inventors hope to bring it to the commercial market in near future.
