Apple should have named it “iFon” instead of “iPhone”!

January 11th, 2007 by ketyung

LinkSys Iphone
Why didn’t Apple name it “iFon” or “iFone” or “iTel” or “iMobile”? (I always use “fon” instead of “phone” for shorthand when typing SMS). In order to retain its dominance of the “i”-brand, Apple finally named it iPhone and now it’s getting sued by Cisco after its iPhone announced for less than a day! Read the rest of this entry »

January 9th, 2007 by ketyung

Kodak digital Wi-Fi picture frame! Get all your digital pictures onto the walls easily!Conventionally, if we want our digital pictures to go onto the walls, we need to send them for printing and then frame it with a traditional photo frame then hang it on the wall. With the Kodak digital Wi-Fi photo frame, you can just get all your digital pictures (from your computer or digital camera) onto the walls without printing it!

It has a built-in 128MB memory. Your digital pictures can be stored on its built-in, or on a memory card, or using Wi-Fi that comes directly from your computer or Internet! It has built-in speakers, which you can have some accompanying music, if you don’t feel it’s annoying. It comes with a remote control, for you to control and setup. It’s not restricted only to just pictures, it’s video-capable!

You will have various choices of frame faceplates, which include frosted floral glass or a whiteboard which you can write on. 10-inch version will be available in US in March for a price at $280.00 and the expected price in UK would be £150. The 7-inch version would be $50.00 or less!

Windows Home Server unveiled by Gates at CES 2007!

January 9th, 2007 by ketyung

Windows Home Server, WHS! WHS
What is Windows Home Server (WHS)? It’s a new product of Microsoft unveiled at CES 2007, which is meant for families that have multiple PCs and digital devices, wish to build up a home network and even connect all your relatives and friends around the world. It’s a software product but its hardware must come from Microsoft’s leading partners (such as HP MediaSmart Server).

The Windows Home Server will help families with multiple PCs connect their home computers, digital devices and printers, in order to easily store, protect and share their treasured photos, music, videos and documents. By automatically backing up home PCs, centralizing a family’s digital “stuff” and allowing access to it away from home, Windows Home Server will help simplify and enhance family life.

Here are some facts of the Windows Home Server:

1. It’s headless, embedded, i.e you can’t just buy WHS and install on your old PC

2. No web interface, interaction to the client PC via client-based software or SMB (Server Message Block)

3. No direct streaming of media to Media Center Extender but it can stream directly to Windows Media Connect-enabled devices.

4. No RAID, but instead uses a RAID-like drive pooling system with built-in redundancy. Expanding capacity is as simple as adding additional drives internally or externally via USB

5. The client software, which is installable only on Windows PCs (duh) monitors PC health, manages backups, and supports full disk images and versions. If your computer crashes hard you can pop in an restore CD and it’ll pull the disk image over the network

6. Your WHS device gets registered with your Windows Live account and is made easily-findable by authorized parties. You can even connect to it via Live and pipe a Remote Desktop connection to a PC on your home network through this Home-finding Live feature
