When space is extremely limited in your tiny apartment, then this is what you really need. A bookcase that has also taken the concept from the Transformer, which can transform into a bed. A mattress stands upright in four bits and forms the bulk of the bookcase. These surround five storage shelves which are suspended in mid-air by a wall mounted frame. The mattress sections are placed on the floor and slot together to form the bed – with two parts for a single, or all four to make a double. This is the design designer Karen Babel.

In terms of art, the Panda Chair is simply cool. But for geeks, this wouldn’t be something reasonable that having to sacrifice hundreds of blank CDs to make this chair. The Panda Chair is claimed to be assembled by using hundreds of blank CDs. Yes, blank, meaning the CDs are still useful that can let you store tons of your precious data, porn clips etc.
Anyway, there is a need to sacrifice for art. If I were the designer, I’d have tried to collect those CDs full of scratches that are hardly readable instead of blank ones to build up this artistic chair. This chair was recently being displayed at Nude Pavilion for the International Furniture Fair of Valencia. Anyway, if one day Sony had run out of business in the computer and music industry, perhaps, they could consider venturing into the furniture line with the thousand tons of blank CDs stuck in their warehouse.

This gadget really gave me a long pause trying to figure out what its specialty was. At first was its price that is really too pricey, which costs you $249 just for a hanger.

The Japanese are really so creative with their furniture. They seem to be putting so much effort in working out two designs of color-changing furniture according to your weight and your mood respectively. The first design are chairs that change colors according to one person’s weight and positioning of the user. Of course this is not really something too difficult, which just depends on a couple of weight sensors. But such a design, perhaps, hard to become popular, especially among the ladies, who are in competition of shedding pounds. The chair that changes according their weight will definitely put them off to sit down on it.
The second design is a set of table and chairs called the Fuwapica Suite, which the chairs change colors according to one person’s mood. Fuwapica means “soft and flashy” in Japanese. For this suite to be able to detect the mood of a person, there is little more complexity involved here. The suite is a round table that features a computer, an LCD display screen and light sensors that link wirelessly to each of the four inflatable chairs. It simply learns your mood by detecting what you place on the table. Such as placing a vase of red rose will make the chairs to change their colors to match the romantic red hue. This furniture aims to hit the market within one or two years, which will be priced in the range of $1.5K to $3.5K.

I guess the designer of this lamp simply loves speakers too much, but somehow, his expertise is only in making lamps instead of speakers. Therefore he produced a floor lamp that definitely looks like a 2-way speakers from far, which there is a little “tweeter” on top and a “woofer” at the bottom. And it’s also dubbed as the “LightSpeaker Lamp”. Of course, the “tweeter” and “woofer” deal only with light instead of treble and bass. There is also a little knob at the left bottom corner. Perhaps, you wanna say that knob is the volume control knob of a speaker, but it’s actually a dimmer for the light. To correct my guess here, I think the designer,Michael Malmborg, is only making use of the acoustic concept to produce the kind of soft white glow effect for this floor lamp. As most of the light is reflected back into the frosted acrylic “acoustic†chamber.
