Asus have announced they’re going to incorporate the Intel anti-theft technology into their upcoming P-series of notebooks. The anti-theft software on laptops is able to prevent the data from being stolen, by letting the owner of the notebook to send a “poison pill” remotely, so the laptop hardware will get locked down, and the entire notebook cannot be operated again, unless it’s back to hands of the owner.
The poison pill system allows the owner to send the laptop into a state that stops working completely. And when the laptop is returned to the owner, there is a need for a pass phrase to get the laptop back to working state. For the thief, who does not have the pass phrase, they will not be able to get the laptop running, and they’ll be completely out of access to the data on the laptop.
