Digg’s got 1 million registered users

March 8th, 2007 by ketyung

Digg User Growth!
1 million, is it a big figure? Well, to my surprise, it’s only 1 million. I’d always thought that Digg would have a much bigger registered users database. Although I’ve never been monitoring the activities on Digg, but I’ve noticed that the frequency of digging activities seems to be pretty intensive. Well, anyway, congratulation to Digg. They had less than 50,000 in March, 2005 and hit 200,000 in March 2006. And now, March 2007, they’ve got 1 million registered users! It’s a 5x increase year over year, which means they’d have hit 5 millions in March, next year and would have made it to 25 millions the year after! Ummmm! Digg shall start looking into planning ahead for their server hardware in order to cater for the 5x growth.

Google sucks? I still love Google!

March 3rd, 2007 by ketyung

Jeff Bonforte of Yahoo!
I’ve been in the IT field for couple of years, I know clearly there is always a fight between the sales personnel or the product manager and the engineers! Here is the story between Google and Yahoo.

According to UberPulse, through their conversation with Yahoo’s director of Real-Time Communications, Jeff Bonforte (pictured), Google is just not conducive to create products. Bonforte’s best product manager went to Google but eventually came back after six months due to he got sick and tired with Google’s chaotic culture! According to the product manager, he had no control of what he wanted during his 6 months at Google. In Google, simply engineers rule! And this guy claimed that Google’s products never show a dent in the market.

Loan shark 2.0! The next level of web 2.0!

February 25th, 2007 by ketyung

Zopa, loan sharks knocking your door!
I’ve talked about before that the next step shall be taken by web 2.0 is to monetize it! Here is a website, first in the world from web 2.0 that helps you and me and itself to monetize. Monetizing by lending or borrowing money! I’d call it the loan shark 2.0, which it’s simply building path for loan sharks. It’s ZOPA, a company in UK, which has taken web 2.0 to another step by putting money where its mouth is!

ZOPA is the acronym for Zone of Possible Agreement, which is the world’s first online lending and borrowing exchange. If those gadgets introduced by TechChee are simply too fascinating and irresistable to you and you’ve almost burnt out most of your bucks, then ZOPA should be where you should turn to, to borrow some bucks.

Wiitube, a combination of the Wii and video

February 20th, 2007 by ketyung

WiiTube!
After YouTube has been acquired by Google for about $1.6 billion and the recently reported the three YouTube’s founders have made multi-millions of dollars from it, it’d have triggered more sites venturing into the video uploading/streaming area or offering a side service for uploading videos.

Here is the website with the combination of video and another hot, Wii. Wiitube is a new site dedicated to Wii videos and smack talk. The creator works with the guy who created Wiiminder. What are the two best things in the world of technology today? Obviously it is the Nintendo Wii and Uploading Videos. So why not combine them? Oh, we did, and we got Wiitube!

Clearly, niches must be filled! Does it serve a niche?

Subscriber number is now available with Google Reader

February 17th, 2007 by ketyung

Google reader
You’d have noticed that there was a little rise of your subscriber number of your FeedBurner feed. TechCrunch even has a double up of its subscriber number. It had around 140K subscribers about a week ago, but now has raised to 270K! This is due to Google has announced that it will begin reporting the number of subscribers any RSS feed has through Google Reader and Google Personalized Homepage.

FeedBurner requires reporting from feed reader vendors in order for their subscribers to be counted. The Google announcement is good news. Additionally, Feedburner also offers statistics including the number of subscribers who actually view your feed and click throughs on individual items.

Publishers can expect to see their Feedburner subscriber numbers include Google Reader numbers Saturday morning but the real difference will be most noticeable on Tuesday or Wednesday when Feedburner numbers hit their weekly peak.
