Polaroid unveils world’s first Android camera with interchangeable lens

polaroid-android
Fans of DSLR or Micro four thirds? Here comes the first Android camera that offers you the capabilities of changing lenses. The Polaroid iM1836 is the first of its kind offering interchangeable lens and to be debuted at CES 2013 on Monday.

The camera is built by Polaroid partner Sakar and comes running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Running Android OS on a camera such as the Samsung Galaxy Camera allows you to use various Android apps from the Google Play Store, e.g. Instagram.

The iM1836 comes with a 10-30mm zoom lens and of course you can swap it and it’s said to be compatible with any Micro Four Thirds lenses via an optional adapter.

It offers 18 megapixels for still images and full HD 1080p video recording. You can hook it up to HDTV via its built-in HDMI output. Other than the interchangeable lens, the other difference is the Polaroid iM1836 offers you only WiFi connectivity, you can’t have it to ride on any data plan for 3G connectivity. Or alternatively you can have it tethered to your smartphone to access the Internet (via Bluetooth or WiFi).

Other goodies are a 3.5-in LCD display at its back, a pop-up flash, auto blink detection, auto face exposure and panorama mode. It’s slated to hit the shelves sometime in Q1 and priced around $400 USD.
