It’s time for those Android smartphone or tablet makers to be more aggressively pushing out the Android 4.0 ICS OS to their devices as Google plans to roll out the next version of Android – Android 5.0 Jelly Bean sometime summer this year.
Acer has started pushing out the Android 4.0 ICS to Iconia Tab A200 owners in the US today, with OTA upgrade expected to be completed next week. The 7-inch Acer Iconia Tab A100 and 10-inch Iconia Tab A500 tablets will also get their updates sometime in April.
The Android 4.0 ICS for the Acer tablets has been tweaked with some custom features, such as the Acer Ring shortcut wheel making easier access to apps, web favorites, screenshot captures and social networking uploads. It’ll also have a new or improved weather widget.
The Acer Iconia Tab A200 tablet was launched in January running Android 3.2 Honeycomb. It packs a 1GHz Tegra 2 chipset, a 10-inch 1280 x 800 touchscreen and with either 8GB or 16GB of storage.
Owners of the Iconia Tab A200 tablets should get a pop-up notification next week telling them that the upgrade is available over the air.
