There are lots of smartphones and tablets from many different brands running the Android OS. So it’s no surprise that there are tons of Android devices activated everyday. Back in June, Andy Rubin of Google announced that there were about 500,000 Android devices activated daily. And now the numbers have increased to over 700,000 Android devices activated everyday.
Although many predicted the figure would have increased to 1 million Android devices activated daily by end of 2011 but unfortunately, it’s not reached 1 million yet. But the 700,000 is not a small figure either.
According to a post by Andy Rubin on Google+, activation means the followings:
“…and for those wondering, we count each device only once (ie, we don’t count re-sold devices), and “activations” means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service.”
So, the figure does not include devices that use WiFi connection only which does not require activation. Thus, the actual figure should be more than 700K Android devices purchased on a daily basis!.
