Pentax Q, world’s smallest interchangeable lens camera

A DSLR is too big to be portable for you. And some micro four thirds might still be slightly bigger than what you need? Well, now there is so called the world’s smallest interchangeable lens camera, called the Pentax Q which should fit your need.

Freshly announced by Pentax, the Pentax Q measures only 98 x 57.5 x 31 mm in dimensions and weighs a mere 200g. And of course, the total weight depends on the type of lens you use.

This pocket-sized camera is based on Q lens mount system that allows you to swap the camera with various types of lenses including fish eye, prime, zoom, toy lens and telephoto etc. The Q mount lens has a diameter 6 mm shorter than the K mount lens.

The camera is equipped with an illuminated 1/2.3-inch CMOS image sensor that offers 12.4 effective megapixels, with the option to shoot JPEG and RAW. It’s also capable of recording full HD 1080p video at 30fps.

The camera also allows you to assign smart effect via its Quick Dial located on the front. There are up to nine smart effects that you can choose from, including Brilliant Colour, Funicular Bold, Vintage Colour, Cross Processing, Warm Fade, Tone Expansion (like HDR), Bold Monochrome, Water Colour and Vibrant Colour Enhance. And there is also a user-defined option.

The camera also has a 3-inch LCD display that offers a resolution of 460k dots and a viewing angle of 170 degrees, which is handy for low-light or bright light conditions. There are also other features such as a Bokeh function, a shake reduction mechanism, a shutter speed of up to 1/2000 second and a choice of shooting in 4:3, 3:2, 16:9 or 1:1 aspects.

Currently, there is no word about the price of the Pentax Q. But it should hit the stores in September 2011 and be available in black and white versions.
