Asus Padfone tablet swallows a smartphone to provide phone functions

Asus Padfone is a new tablet from Asus, which has something more unique than your average Android tablet. The Padfone reserves a cavity for a custom-made smartphone to plug in it, allowing the Padfone to share the 3G connection of the smartphone as well as letting you have all the phone functions on a bigger screen, including making calls.

The Padfone also extends the battery of the handset. Currently, there are no official hardware and software specs of the Padfone yet. The Padfone should come video conferencing capabilities.

A clip is included below, showing the Padfone in action. As shown in the clip, the Padfone runs Android Honeycomb. It seems to be a tablet in the 10-inch range, while the smartphone is somewhere in the 4-inch range.

If a regular smartphone has strained your eyes too much, a tablet will be a better device for you. But a 10-inch device is definitely less easy to carry around than a 4-inch handset. We’ll update you about this device when we have more details. Check out the product page on Asus.
