iPhly lets you fly an RC airplane using your iPhone

iPhone is one of the most ubiquitous gadgets for most people these days, making it the most appropriate device to carry out lots of fun in life. It’s not new using an iPhone as an RC remote control for controlling an RC toy or flying an RC helicopter.

Now there is another iPhone accessory and its accompanying app called the iPhly which is able to turn your iPhone into a controller for flying an RC airplane. The iPhly is a brainchild of Mountain View, California’s Ari Krupnik, who is an app developer and R/C enthusiast.

The iPhly app is already available on iTunes and you just need the injection-moulded case which lets the iPhone slide into it. You can buy common frequency modules from hobby stores, which plugs into the back of the case, allowing you to remotely control an R/C airplane. The iPhly case receives control signals from the iPhone via its headphone jack and relays them back to the frequency module, which then sends the signals to the airplane.

Flying an RC airplane using iPhly on your iPhone is easy. Such as rolling your iPhone to the left or right, allows you to roll or turn the plane. Pitching the iPhone up and down, causing the plane to climb and dive. You just need to swipe the iPhone’s touchscreen to control the rudder and the throttle level or shake the iPhone to completely stop the throttle.

The iPhly case can be hooked up to a PC, letting a user learn to use the system via a flight simulator. The iPhly app can work with thousands of different R/C models. It’s not limited to planes, you can use it to control R/C boats or cars but you’ll need to get the suitable frequency modules for them. Production has started on the iPhly module unit, and you can place your pre-order on RC4WD store. The case itself costs $100, while a case comes complete with a frequency module and receiver costs $135.
