If you have a number of SATA HDDs, SSDs or optical drives and you wish to hook them up to the USB 3.0 port of your computer to enjoy the super high speeds of 5Gbps, VIA has the solution for you.
VIA has announced a lower-power USB 3.0 to SATA bridge controller, known as VIA VL701, which is an adapter that consumes comparatively lower power, allowing you to connect any SATA drives to the USB 3.0 port of your computer.
The VIA VL701 is also the first fully integrated 5V switching regulator allowing it to be highest in power efficiency, delivering 10 times the speeds of USB 2.0 technology. This adapter also lets VIA be the first company to achieve USB-IF Bus-Power certification using a hard disk drive rather than SSD.
Apparently, the VIA VL701 offers more flexibility for us to hook up SATA-interfaced devices to USB 3.0 ports of our computer, to enjoy the super high speeds of data transfer. It can be integrated into portable computers such as laptops, netbooks or tablets since it consumes very little power which does not drain too much of the battery; thus handy for users on the go.
