Spinovo – an electronic pain relief garment

Have you been suffering from back pain due to too much sitting in front of the computer in bad postures? Soon, your back pain can be relieved by simply wearing an electronic garment called Spinovo.

Spinovo is currently just a prototype that is being developed by student designer Justine Smith of the University of New South Wales, which is deemed helpful in alleviating chronic lower back pain.

The Spinovo is deemed more effective than other back pain relievers, thanks to its “new spine”, which uses heating, cooling and transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) to get rid of back pains.

The electronic garment also helps prevent acute back by providing postural feedback. There are many suffering from lower back pains, which are mostly due to sitting in unpleasant positions, while focusing on some taxing work. ( I tend to lean forward while I’m working on some taxing tasks on my computer)

The Spinovo has a host of sensors, which are able to track both the motion and the position of the spinal cord. The sensors are capable of evaluating the functioning of back muscles. The sensors, and the visual and audio feedbacks provided through the included remote control of this garment, are able to gear the user towards correct postures.

The Spinovo garments come in dimensions of 855 x 415 x 10mm and made of various materials. Each Spinovo pain relief garment requires two rechargeable Polymer lithium ion batteries to keep it heated for around two and half hours. As mentioned, it’s just a prototype and there is no indication when this will become available in the market.
