Vulnerability in Skype for Android, leaking your personal info

If you’re a Skype user on your Android device, you should take note of this, as it’s not as safe as you think. The vulnerability was discovered by Android Police by testing a recently leaked version of the Skype video, which features Thunderbolt technology.

The leaked Skype Video app for Android was torn apart by Android Police, and to their surprise, how easy information could be harvested from your device, including your contacts, email addresses, instant message logs and other personal info.

The same vulnerability was found on the standard version of Skype for Android, which has been available since Oct 2010. To date, there are at least 10 millions users of this app and they’re affected. But the Skype Mobile for Verizon version is found to be unaffected at this time.

The vulnerability lies within the data folder of Skype app, which stores your personal info including contacts, IM logs, account balance, address, date of birth and many more – is now accessible by anyone, or any apps. The video below shows how the vulnerability was found. If you want more technical details about it, then head over to Android Police.
