The next generations of iPhone or iPad would come with a hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 connector to let you transfer data in and out via the high-speed USB 3.0 port. Apple has filed a patent for the said hybrid DisplayPort/USB 3.0 connector. In addition to the USB 3.0 technology, the connector will also allow for Thunderbolt high-speed transfer.
The upcoming iPhone 5 will not likely come equipped with the hybrid 30-pin/USB 3.0 connector. But you’d be able to see it on Apple’s handhelds sometime next year when Intel Mac computers debut with USB 3.0.
Since iPhone 5 is just a few months away, it’d be too tight for Apple to roll the hybrid connector out for the iPhone 5. But the next-gen iPhone or iPad that will come in 2012 should have the connector coming along. As shown in the diagram, the hybrid connector provides a USB 2.0, a USB 3.0 port and a DisplayPort. iPod will most likely be the first iDevice to adopt this high-speed connector.
