RIM is said to bring BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) to the iOS and Android devices. Currently, there is no word about the price or when RIM will make the BBM available for the iPhone or Android devices. The BBM for iOS or Android could be available for free or having a one-time user fee or recurring fee as it involves some cost for the company to port it over to the two other mobile platforms.
BBM is one of the most popular messaging apps on the BlackBerry devices, since it’ll have more footprints onto other mobile platforms, this will allow RIM to control the entire messaging space.
The BBM for iOS or Android could be just a scaled-down version of the original BBM on BlackBerry devices. This will allow the iOS or Android users to use its basic features. Complex features such as sharing pictures or videos will only be available with the full version on BlackBerry smartphones. Chances are it’ll be available in a free, scaled-down version and a full version that costs a price. Doing so allows RIM to easily spread its footprints over the mobile messaging space.

BBM has became really popular amongst people I know, it is one of the main reasons they bought Blackberry’s. So I’m not surprised they are looking to push it further.
