Most of us have stocked up a number of boxes of DVD movies or audios for playback on the home theater systems or computers. But if you’re an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch user, you’ll definitely wish to transfer those DVD movies or musics to your iDevices, so you can be enjoying watching or listening on the run. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to do so, unless you make use of a software called MacX DVD Ripper Pro.
The MacX DVD Ripper Pro is the software that rips DVDs that you own and converts them into suitable formats (e.g MP4, MOV, FLV, MPEG, iTunes video etc) for personal use on your iPhone, iPod, iPad, Zune and more. The MacX DVD Ripper Pro is available for both the Mac and Windows platforms.
Review of MacX DVD Ripper Pro
I’m the lucky one, given the opportunity to review the MacX DVD Ripper Pro. I chose the Windows version for the review as I’m more comfortable as a Windows user instead of a Mac user.
Easy-to-use interface
The very first impression after launching the MacX DVD Ripper Pro for Windows was it presented a very easy-to-use interface. As shown in the above attached image, it just takes you three simple steps to rip a DVD and there are taps at the lower half of the MacX DVD Pro window, allowing you to easily choose what format you want to rip the DVD to. In my case, I chose the iPad as I’ve been longing to convert some DVD titles that I own for my own personal use on my iPad, so I can enjoy watching those titles in my comfort zone or on the go.
The MacX DVD Ripper Pro also offers some optimization for advanced users for various settings including audio quality, audio sample rate, volume, audio format, video quality, video frame rate, video format and video resolution etc. All these settings can be adjusted under the “format” tab that you’ve chosen to convert the DVD to. Or you can simply choose one from the preset profile setting.
Fast DVD ripping speed
I’ve tested the MacX DVD Ripper Pro for Windows for ripping one of the four sections (about 1 hour plus per section) of a rip-protected DVD movie loaded on my external USB DVD writer which has a read speed of 24x only. The ripping of one section took around 16 minutes, which I consider fast, for converting into a MPEG 4 (640×480) H.264 format for the iPad. Of course, it’ll take longer time for converting into a format with a higher resolution such as the 720p HD. It also depends on the performance of hardware such as the processor, memory, bus speed and the read speed of your DVD drive. I also transferred the ripped DVD movie to my iPad using iTunes, and it played smoothly right on the iPad.
Overall, I’m impressed how easy it’s to rip a DVD and transfer to your iPhone, iPod, iPad or other portable video or audio devices for watching or listening on the go. So, if you have lots of DVD titles, you should consider getting the MacX DVD Ripper Pro for ripping those discs for transferring to your iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch or other portable media players. The MacX DVD Ripper Pro is currently priced at $35 only for a limited time (30% off from the original price of $50 USD). There is also a free version which has limited features.
