Invisibility cloak isn’t new, but none of them has become a reality instead of being just a research prototype. And some more, most inviability cloaks that we’ve seen before based on the use of metamaterials that can make small objects invisible to a specific wavelength of light. But researchers from MIT, have developed the carpet cloak, which is more promising as it uses calcite crystals to make much larger objects disappear in the visible spectrum.

Small doesn’t mean lacking capabilities. ST-Ericsson will be launching the world’s smallest GPS receiver called the CG1950 but is claimed to provide much better positioning system for mobile devices. The tiny GPS receiver is able to see both American GPS and Russian GLONASS position satellites, making it more reliable and able to locate you much faster.

SSDs have been expected to replace hard disk drives. But due to the high prices, SSDs are still far less common while compared to hard disk drives and users can usually afford SSDs with relatively smaller storage capacities. Luckily, some manufacturers have put in efforts looking into developing SSDs that are less costly, such as the PCIe-based SSD introduced by FusionIO before. And now HighPoint has also joined the same bandwagon, having created PCIe-based SSD products called the Smart Hybrid HBA.

More 4G smartphones are coming our way. The HTC Inspire 4G is another 4G smartphone that has been announced by the AT&T to come on February 13. The handset runs Android 2.2 and offers up to HSPA+ connectivity while connected to AT&T network. Strictly speaking, the HSPA+ connectivity offers just the network speeds close to 4G, which isn’t the real 4G.

The existing versions of iPhone do not come with NFC capabilities but this does not stop VISA from launching its VISA mobile app for the trials with iPhone in Europe. The VISA Mobile app will enable NFC contactless payment on the iPhone by needing you to attach a dongle called the iCarte from Wireless Dynamics.
