Thunderbolt is the new technology that provides super high data bandwidth of 10Gbps and runs two protocols, PCI Express and DisplayPort to run simultaneously over a single cable for connectivity to high-performance peripherals. A number of new products have been announced recently that support the new Thunderbolt technology, one of them is the LaCie Little Big Disk, which is the first external hard drive that supports the Thunderbolt technology.
The LaCie Little Big Disk is best used by AV pros for transferring all the audio and video contents and it allows the complete backup of a complete system in just minutes.
The LaCie Little Big Disk also comes in quite portable size, making it handy for users on the go. It’s also powered by and bootable over FireWire, making it ideal to be used with a portable editing workstation and as a companion for your Apple PowerBooks. It’s also dubbed as the fastest portable drive offering up to 80MB/s via FireWire 800, faster than most desktop solutions in the market.
The LaCie Little Big Disk will be available in large storage capacities for up to 320GB. It also comes with a LaCie signature design by Neil Poulton, the creator of the original d2 hard drive series. These new LaCie external hard drives with Thunderbolt technology will come sometime in Q2 2011.
