Of all the good news, you might be more interested in hearing that a new version of iPad or iPhone that offers much longer battery life than your existing iPad or iPhone does. But it shouldn’t be too far from now, Apple would adopt its new technology for all the mobile gadgets it has. Apple has filed a patent app which does not add bulk to any existing batteries but allowing them to have much longer life and more juice inside.
The new Apple patent app is called “Increasing Energy Density in Rechargeable Lithium Battery Cells”, which outlines a way to charge a battery by using what’s called “multi-step constant-current constant-voltage (CC-CV) charging technique.”.
The above-said CC-CV charging technique would allow the thickness of the anode active material inside a battery cell to be increased in both “volumetric and gravimetric energy density”. Using the technique allows the increase in power density, however, the battery size, maximum charging time and minimum life cycle still remain unchanged.
The CC-CV charging process also uses less current, which would also prevent the battery usable life from being shortened due to heat. The patent was filed back in 2009, but so far there is no news when the new tech to be used in any Apple notebooks or other gears.
