There is a need for a more effective way to test alcohol level for drivers to prevent more accidents. There are systems, such as the court-ordered breathalyzers, that can be installed in a car to stop the driver from starting the car, until he or she blows an acceptable alcohol level. But such a system can only be installed as an after-market component.
But now, a research company called QinetiQ has developed a more effective system that allows it to be more conveniently adopted by every future car. The QinetiQ system will have touch sensors embedded in the steering wheels or door handles, which are able to read the driver’s blood alcohol level through their skin. This also eliminates the little hassle of needing the driver to blow into an alcohol level tester.
The system is also able to calculate the alcohol level almost instantly, which usually takes less than a second. So, far the company has demonstrated a prototype but there are still some work ahead, for perfecting the system with much better accuracy.
