The first iPhone-controlled RC toy should be the AR.Drone RC helicopter but it relies on a more complex system. Now a UK company called MediaSauce, has developed a simple solution called AppToyz which turns the iPhone into a remote control for RC toys including an RC helicopter and a RC racing car which are controllable by the iPhone.

The AppToyz comes in a much simpler form, which is just a headphone dongle that plugs into the headphone jack and turns the iPhone or iPod Touch into a remote control for RC toys. Since it’s a much simpler, it also costs much less which is priced at £50 and £30 for the RC helicopter and RC car respectively, while compared to the £300 price point of the AD.Drone.
Both the AppToyz RC helicopter and RC car should be available at the same time. And they’ve all been approved by Apple. The company also plans to release more AppToyz RC gadgets.
