NFC payments have earlier rolled out in S. Korea and Japan but it’s still pretty new in the US while operators are still prepping their networks to be ready for the NFC payments. The first NFC-supported device is the Google Nexus S, putting Apple behind for rolling out NFC-enabled devices in the US market.
Although Apple is not the first player for NFC-enabled devices for the US market but it aims to do the job better – so the next-gen iDevices, iPhone 5 and iPad 2 will come with NFC support, allowing you to make wireless purchases.
According to Richard Doherty, of consulting firm Envisioneering Group, who claims to have got his info from one of the Apple engineers involved in it – Apple will also have some other upcoming NFC plans including a few patents describing the potential uses of the NFC technology.
It’s also believed that NFC will change how purchases or payments are made via iTunes, including maintaining the credit card details, loyalty points and storing credits for shopping or referring friends. Apple also plans to roll out NFC payment terminals for small businesses including heavily subsidizing them or giving away as free in order to speed up NFC penetration in US market. But if you do not have plan to grab to the iPhone 5 or iPad 2, you also can make use of a simple solution, an NFC sticker to enable NFC on your existing iPhone.
