The Verizon iPhone 4 has been announced and it still has a month to go before it’s available for purchase (February 10). So, you should now know some facts which will help you make up your mind whether you should buy the Verizon iPhone 4.
The Verizon iPhone 4 is a CDMA phone instead of GSM and it prices are $199 for the 16GB and $299 for the 32GB, with a 2-year contract, which are the same as the AT&T iPhone 4. The pre-order of the Veizon iPhone 4 will start on February 3. Basically the Verizon iPhone 4 packs the same features found on the AT&T iPhone 4 such as the FaceTime, Retina Display but there are some differences and drawbacks as well.
1. HotSync turns the iPhone 4 into a WiFi hotspot. What is new on the Verizon iPhone 4 is the Verizon’s HotSync service which allows the iPhone 4 to work as a WiFi hotspot or a cellular Internet modem, allowing up to 5 WiFi-enabled devices connected to it for sharing Internet. This feature has never existed in the AT&T iPhone 4. The HotSync is useful which you can share your Internet connection to a few of your friends, who are using other WiFi-enabled devices such as laptop, smart phones, tablets etc. But the HotSync service will cost you $45 (2GB DataPro plan) or $60 per month depending on the plan.
2. Verizon network could be more stable than the AT&T The existing AT&T users should have experienced many dropped calls, which has put many customers off from buying an AT&T iPhone 4. Verizon has put in efforts and strengthened its network so it’ll be capable of handling the massive traffic to be brought by the iPhone. Verizon has even spent a year plus with Apple testing the iPhone 4 on its CDMA network. Some more, the Verizon iPhone 4 will also get a new antenna that gives it a signal boost. There are 4 antenna notches compared to three only with the AT&T iPhone 4. But it’s unclear if the extra antenna notch will help on the dealth grip.
3. Unlimited data plan? The unlimited data plan of Verizon iPhone 4 that costs $30 a month, currently still remains as unconfirmed. If it’s true then it should help heavy users save a lot in long run.
4. Drawback – Calls and data access can’t run simultaneously! The above are the extra and good things about the Verizon iPhone 4. But there is downside as well, provided if you’re a super user, who needs accessing data and making calls simultaneously. But this cannot be done on the Verizon iPhone 4. As the CDMA technology inside the iPhone 4 that makes it compatible with the Verizon network can’t handle calls and data access simultaneously. The CDMA chip in the iPhone 4 needs to separate voice from data on the network, therefore can only run at one time. This is also the reason why AT&T claims the Verizon iPhone 4 is slow!
5. iPhone 5 could be coming in June 2011. There are rumors that iPhone 5 would be coming in summer and ride on the 4G LTE network, which AT&T and Verizon have been pushing so hard.
So, hope all these are helpful for you to decide if you should go head buying the Verizon iPhone 4.
