Asteroid by Parrot is a car stereo powered by the Google Android OS. There aren’t many Android-powered radios out there. The Asteroid should be the first few of its kind and offers more than what a regular car stereo does, including the ability of music playback from a variety of sources such as MP3 players, SD cards and USB drives etc.
The Parrot Asteroid also offers three USB ports which allow you to hook up USB drives and playback music directly from the drives. You can also connect a USB 3G card or GPS device to add 3G or GPS capability.
The device also works with the Parrot Maps, providing you turn-by-turn navigation and traffic and construction alerts. It also offers Bluetooth connectivity, which will give you voice dialing and hands-free calling, as well as voice-activated artist search.
Having the Asteroid car stereo, you can always keep your hands on the steering wheel, so you’ll not be distracted with incoming calls or when you feel like shifting tracks on the stereo. Unfortunately, there is no price info but it should be arriving in the US in Q2 2011.
