According to some modders at TechPowerUp, the AMD Radeon HD 6950 graphics card actually uses the same GPU used by the more powerful HD 6970. The HD 6950 is slower as some features are locked, and you just need to have a bit of modding to have the features unlocked and turn the slower HD 6950 into an HD 6970. This is definitely a good news for those who’ve got the HD 6950, so you do not have to fork out more for getting a more powerful 6970.
The “extra” features of the HD 6950 are only turned off in the BIOS instead of having fuses on the board that lock it. So, you can simply make unlock it from the BIOS. The full instruction can be obtained from TechPowerUp. You can also download the files you need for the unlock process directly from TechPowerUp.
