
NavFree USA is a free GPS navigation app for your iPhone, iPod or iPad. The application is suitable for iDevice with at least iOS 4.0. It’s the first of its kind that is free allowing you to access to turn by turn directions, auto re-routing, voice guidance and live Google search.
A version of NavFree has been available for the UK and Ireland, which has 700,000 user base for accessing GPS or satellite information at no cost. Now, the latest version is made for the US allowing you to navigate the highways of North America at no cost.
Despite the app is free, it comes with lots of useful features including searching of address, point of interest, Google location search and instant routing to desired locations with voice guidance.
NavFree USA is also integrated with social networking, allowing you to instantly share your position via SMS, Email, Twitter and Facebook. You can add enhanced features such as speed cameras, local petrol prices and traffic info by purchasing them within the NavFree USA app. The NavFree app is available for download from iTunes.

MapQuest 4 Mobile has been free and in use on my phone for some time. It has audible turn by turn driving directions. NavFree looks like it may be better, but it’s not first with these features!

I see now that it’s the first “onboard” GPS (meaning all the maps and data are stored on your device). It’s also 1.76GB, so you would need some room on your device.
I guess that would be quite useful in an area that doesn’t have adequate 3G coverage for something like MapQuest 4 Mobile, which is only 5.4MB
