AirPlay allows an iDevice to stream videos to the Apple TV or compatible devices but not everyone has got the Apple TV. Fortunately, someone has had a hack, come up with an app called AirPlayer which allows your iPhone, iPod or iPad to stream videos directly to your Mac computer.
Basically the AirPlayer creates and advertises a custom Bonjour AirPlay service that pretends to be an Apple TV, tricking the device into streaming video to it. Currently, the AirPlayer is at its early stage which could be pretty buggy but the good news it does not require your iDevice to be jailbroken. The alpha ad-supported version is available for download. The video below shows how a YouTube video on the iPhone is beamed over showing on a big screen of the Mac.
