A number of companies have been aggressively improving their 3D display technologies. What they’re working on are no further than 3D displays that require no 3D glasses. Except Toshiba, which wants to be more advanced in 3D display technology. It’s now working on a new 3D display which is not only glasses-free but is able to adjust itself to follow the viewing angle of the viewer.
Apparently, the kind of adjustable 3D display is suitable for use on single-user devices such as tablet, portable gadget. We’re wondering how it could follow the viewing angles on a multiple-user device such as a 3D TV which will have a number viewers watching and each having different viewing angle.
Of course, the Toshiba’s self-adjusting 3D display definitely makes life easier for the 3D world. Toshiba will demo the technology using a tablet that has the adjustable glasses-free 3D display. The tablet is also equipped with a six-axis acceleration sensor, which detects tilting of the display, and combines with the position of the viewer’s head to determine the viewing angle. The tablet also has software to tilt the viewing angle to within the range for proper 3D viewing, broadening the field of view.
