Google Chrome OS netbook unveiled, Inventec ships 60,000 units for testing

Google has announced the Google Chrome OS netbooks to be coming our way. A few interesting features of the Chrome-OS powered netbook have been demoed by Google including the ability to come back up from sleep almost instantly and the HTML 5 offline storage and app-running capabilities.

A number of netbook manufacturers, including Acer and Samsung, should be delivering their Google Chrome netbooks around mid of 2011. Along with this announcement, Inventec also confirmed that it’s already shipped 60,000 units of Chrome netbooks to Google for testing. The batch could be the unbranded 12-inch Cr-48 laptop that was said to be meant for developers in Google’s event in SF.

Acer was also said to be developing with Quanta Computer for an 10.1-inch Atom N550-based Chrome OS netbook, featuring WiFi and Bluetooth. But Acer still remains conservative whether the Chrome-OS netbook will become popular as it takes time for people to get used to the new Google Chrome OS.
