
Sharp had announced two Galapagos Android-powered eBook readers at the end of September. And they’re now are said to be headed for a release in Japan on December 10th. The 5.5-inch model is expected to cost around $476, while the 10.8-inch model will be priced around $714 and come included with an 8GB SD card. The larger model is more expensive than the Apple iPad which sells at $580 only in Japan.
The two Sharp Galapagos eBook tablets will start accepting pre-orders from December 3rd onwards. To refresh your mind, the 5.5-inch Sharp tablet packs a LCD screen with a resolution of 1024×768. It’s been optimized for reading e-books and has a trackball for scrolling down pages. The larger, 10.8-inch model has a screen resolution of 1,366×800 and its strength lies in magazine content that comes in a two-page format.
Along with the release of the two eBook tablets, Sharp will also ready an online e-Book platform, which will come loaded with more than 30,000 e-books, newspapers and magazines etc.
