OnLive cloud-based gaming starts its pre-orders

We reported about the OnLive cloud-based gaming months back and now the company has announced it’s ready for the public. The cloud-based gaming OnLive basically streams the game as video from the gaming platform to any client. And the player’s reactions or commands are then sent back to the server.

The cloud-based gaming frees you from having to be attached to a particular game console or PC. And there isn’t any need for software installation. As long as you’re connected to the Internet, you’re able to play the OnLive cloud-based games.

The service has been in its beta for a while and now it’s been announced for its availability for the public. This means the company has solved some of the potential latency issues (delay between input and visual responses), therefore making their service public. But you need a little microconsole TV adapter which has started its pre-orders on their website for $99. The microconsole also claims to work on any platform such as your game console or PC and the package also includes a wireless game controller. If your TV does not have HDMI, you’ll need to get the optional OnLive video adapter which costs additional $29.

What a pile of crap. What kind of lag are your going to have playing an online game when you are remotely connected to the hardware running a game that’s connected to a separate online server. Wow just throw that in the landfill already…
