Apple, by having only one type of device – the Apple iPhone, has passed RIM and secured the 4th of largest global mobile phone vendors. The latest IDC figures show that Apple is shipping 14.1 million handsets every three months. And the numbers manage to secure them the 4th on the Top 5 list of mobile phone vendors worldwide.
Now, Apple is ahead of RIM, having 4.1% of market share, while RIM has fallen to the 5th, having market share of 3.6% only. Nokia currently still tops the list, but shows some weakness, which has slipped from having 36.5% to 32.4% market share. Followed by second and third are Samsung and LG, which are having market share of 21% and 8.3% respectively. The poor Sony Ericsson has been pushed off the Top-5 list since 2004 when IDC started tracking the top 5 mobile phone vendors.
