South Korea KT has announced a new NFC (Near Field Communication)-equipped Samsung handset called the Samsung SHW-A170K. The handset uses the NFC technology which allows it to be used as a contactless card for making payments at supporting outlets such as GS Caltex, Lotte, Dunkin’ Donuts, Baskin Robbins, and a number of others.
The Samsung SHW-A170K phone uses an NFC compatible USIM. It has a 3-inch WQVGA touchscreen display, a 3-megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.1, T-DMB tuner and GPS. So, the entire handset packs pretty standard features except it offers extra convenience of making payments. Sadly, there is no indication whether this handset will be headed to other countries.
