Camera phones have recently come with high-megapixel sensors. Such as the Panasonic Lumix and the Altek Leo Android phone which come packed with a 13MP and a 14MP sensor respectively. But they won’t stop there, as Sony plan to deliver their new 16.41MP Exmor R-based CMOS sensor to come in a phone near you shortly.
The Sony’s 16.4-megepixel sensor will allow a camera phone to have a full HD 1080p video recording capability at 30fps. It also uses back-illumination to reduce visual noises. It’ll no doubt show up in Sony Ericsson smart phones and also be offered to other manufacturers from January 2011.
Other than the 16.4 MP sensor, Sony has also announced an 8.13MP sensor which is meant for phones which size matters. This 8.13MP sensor is currently dubbed as the world’s thinnest and smallest for phones which will most likely go into a slider QWERTY phone that desperately wants to reduce bulkiness.
