AT&T has updated its iPhone GPS app with the latest version known as Navigator 1.7i, which is currently considered as the first navigation app for the iPhone, that has the direct speech recognition capability. You may argue that a number of GPS devices already pack the speech recognition capability, but on the iPhone it’s the first time.
The AT&T Navigator 1.7i is very easy to use. You just need to tap on the icon and speak your destination, the app will then display the appropriate destination addresses for you to choose from. Just tap the one you want from the addresses, and navigation will start.
The Navigator 1.7i also provides alerts for traffic cameras, works in landscape mode and provides lane assist function. And the app also has an interesting feature called “shake to go home” which does exactly what it says – once you shake, you’ll be shown with the directions back home. The Navigator 1.7i can be downloaded for free but it isn’t a free app – the catch is you’ll be charged via your phone bill.
