Panasonic’s Toughbook series is filled with several rugged laptops and tablets that are meant for industrial use. They’ve also recently added a new notebook called the Toughbook S9 in this rugged series. The Panasonic Toughbook S9 is dubbed as the world’s lightest and ruggedest 12.1-inch notebook that comes with built-in DVD drive and weighs exactly 3 lbs or 1.4kg.
The ruggedness of Toughbook S9 meets the military standard of MIL-STD-810G and is able to survive a 12? drop onto a concrete from any angle. It also a features a sealed keyboard which survives any spills. And it also survives pressures of more than 220lbs on its lid.
It also packs Gobi2000 global wireless broadband connectivity, WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1. It’s powered by an Intel Core i5-520M 2.4GHz processor which is boostable up to 2.93GHz and has a 3MB smart cache.
Other goodies are 2GB DDR3 RAM, a 320GB shock-mounted flex-connect hard drive, a 12.1-inch WXGA 1280 x 800 LCD display, HDMI and VGA outputs for external displays and an impressive battery life of 11 hours. Of course, it doesn’t come cheap; a base model already costs you $2,500.
